If you regularly download apps, buy games, or make in-app purchases on Android, you might be sitting on a hidden stash of digital currency: Google Play Points.

Google’s rewards program lets you rack up points just for spending money on the Play Store, downloading featured free apps during promotional windows, or leveling up your tier status. But earning points is only half the battle. Knowing how to redeem and maximize them can turn your virtual balance into free apps, game items, or actual Google Play credit.

Step 1: Check Your Balance and Find the “Use” Tab

Before you can spend your rewards, you need to see what you’re working with:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Play Points, then select the Use tab.

Here, you will see your current point total and a breakdown of all the ways you can spend them.

Step 2: Choose Your Redemption Option

Google Play Points offer several flexible ways to cash out, depending on what you like to do on your phone:

1. Google Play Credit (The Fan Favorite)

If you want ultimate flexibility, you can trade your points directly for Google Play Credit. This credit adds straight to your Google balance and can be used to buy paid apps, games, movies, books, or even pay for subscriptions like Google One or YouTube Premium.

  • Tip: Keep an eye on expiration dates—Google Play Credit acquired through points typically expires one year from the date you redeem it.

2. In-App Items and Exclusive Coupons

If you play mobile games (like Roblox, Genshin Impact, or various puzzle and strategy titles), you can spend your points on exclusive in-game items, character skins, or special discount coupons.

  • Coupons will automatically apply at checkout as long as your in-app purchase meets the coupon’s minimum value requirements.

3. Third-Party Vouchers and Perks

Depending on your region, Google occasionally lets you exchange points for partner vouchers or digital perks. These show up under your Perks tab and can give you discounts on external streaming services, food delivery, or retail brands.

4. Donate to Charity

If you’re feeling philanthropic, Google allows you to pool your points together to donate to various global charities and non-profit organizations directly through the platform.

Step 3: How to Checkout Using Your Points

Depending on what you are buying, you can often redeem your points right at the moment of checkout:

  1. Select the item or in-app purchase you want to buy.
  2. At the final checkout screen, look for the payment method dropdown or the “Use points” option.
  3. Choose how many points you want to apply to the transaction.
  4. Tap Apply and then complete your purchase.

Note: If a transaction fails or gets canceled after using points at checkout, the points will typically bounce back into your Google Play account within 1 to 7 days.

Pro-Tips to Maximize Your Play Points

  • Watch for Point Boosts: Google frequently runs weekly events (especially on Fridays) where you can activate a booster to earn 3x to 5x more points on all game purchases and in-app items for a limited time.
  • Don’t Let Them Expire: Play Points generally expire if you haven’t earned or spent any points for a full calendar year. Make sure to check your account periodically so your hard-earned rewards don’t vanish.
